New Mom Struggles With Breast Cancer

New Mom Struggles With Breast Cancer
OP Woman Finds Lump While Breastfeeding Baby

Image

A 28-year-old Overland Park woman shared her fight against breast cancer with KMBC’s Lara Moritz.

Amy Tyler was breastfeeding her 6-month-old son, Harrison, when she discovered a lump.

Tyler’s doctors thought it was just a clogged milk duct. Four months later, Tyler was still suffering.

“I thought I had mastitis. I was in a lot of pain. I was having chest pains,” Tyler said. “I found out the next week I had breast cancer.

“The worst day of my life was finding out I had cancer. The second worst day was losing my breast.”

Tyler had to quit breastfeeding her baby immediately.

“That was probably the most difficult thing,” Tyler said.

Now, she’s undergoing a rigorous round of chemotherapy.

“You basically have to drag me there. My husband — I make him go with me. So he takes a whole day off work because it’s just dreadful,” Tyler said.

She said she’s grown very close to her husband, Kyle, who she said keeps life running smoothly, despite the challenges.

Tyler said she was touched by her friends who established Operation Saving Amy, which gives her hope.

“I’m extremely humbled by my friends who have taken their generosity to help my family,” Tyler said.

Tyler still has months of chemotherapy ahead of her and then radiation treatment.

“Cancer is not cheap. It’s a really hard time right now,” Tyler said. “It’s been a big mountain in a road we’re climbing right now, but I know we’re going to get through it, and it will be over someday.”

Donations for Operation Saving Amy can be sent to:

***OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT***

October 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The Race Horse Is Not Faster Than The African Cougar
by: Rahzilla

I watched the final debate as many of you, cheering Obama on to bring home the victory. I also watched John McCain try to use hot political issues like terrorism, the economic crisis, health care and education in order to appear concern and dedicated to resolving the problem. See, John Mc Cain believes the race horse is the fastest horse on earth without even bothering to look at the speed of an African cougar. But, Obama understands this because he knows the nature of his opponent who dismissed him as unqualified to lead the nation. This being the reason he remained regal and presidential throughout the debate.
There is certainly no argument that John McCain’s mannerism and expressions were observed in his behavior last night. I read reviews and reports the next morning on how he smirked, blinked and rolled his eyes over 3,000 times throughout the debate. My observational skills picked up on this in earlier debates but, it became more apparent last night. Obama stands for change and the old system and way of doing things is coming to an end. Obama, was always the leader from the start of this race, and McCain the challenger and last night it became even more evident.
According to civil rights activist and  Dr. Ben Chavis, ” Obama’s swagger is sophisticated hip-hop. Obama’s intellectual genius is representative of a generation of youth who not only want change, but who are willing to break all societal barriers and myths to achieve change“.

As we continue to break barriers and vote for a change on november 4th, we should be mindful that politics gives the illusion of power and change got to come from the people. In the words of Mumia, “it is a measure of how dire is the hour that they’ve passed the keys to the kingdom to a Black man”. In any event, Obama you got my vote!

HOW TO HUSTLE AND WIN

In How to Hustle and Win, Supreme Understanding tells, in often graphic detail, stories  like that of the infamous Jamaican Shower Posse, Harlem’s heroin kingpin Frank Lucas, and former gang leader Stanley “Tookie” Williams. In between and throughout these tales, he weaves life lessons and guidance, turning sordid stories of crime and urban despair into an educational experience. Whereas Robert Greene’s bestselling 48 Laws of Power used iconic figures from classic history to illustrate guidelines for personal success, How to Hustle and Win is filled with the exploits of rappers, gangsters, radicals, and revolutionaries. This is a new kind of “street lit” title, and its intent is the motivation and achievement of a new kind of reader.
How to Hustle and Win comes at a time when urban fiction, or “street lit,” has become immensely popular, but youth violence and incarceration continue climbing toward all-time highs. While much of urban media appears to encourage reckless behavior instead of warning against it, How to Hustle and Win fills a much-need void. Supporters believe the book promises real change. One such supporter is “Freeway Ricky” Ross, the man held responsible for introducing crack-cocaine to America in the 1980s. According to Ross, now a staunch anti-drug advocate, “How to Hustle and Win is a powerful book that every hustler, male or female, should pick up and read. Not only is the book inspirational, but it will also enlighten the minds of our trapped and confused youth.”

How to Hustle and Win is available in bookstores, online, and at Hip Hop retailers throughout the US , Canada , and the UK . The author, Supreme Understanding, is available for interviews, speaking engagements, and contributions to print media. 5 Habits of Millionaires (thanks Juicy J)

October 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

5 Habits of Millionaires

Earned Money vs. Easy Money

Easy money usually comes from inheritance or luck, such as winning the lottery. The track record of people who get their money through the lottery or other windfalls is usually very different from those who created their wealth themselves or who planned for an expected inheritance. Lottery winners are often a sorry lot; more than 90 percent use up their winnings within 10 years — some go through their money in weeks or months.

But there are some consistent patterns among those people who earn or plan to inherit their money, and these five strategies may be worth emulating.

1. Avoid the Earn-to-Spend Mentality

Michael LeBoeuf, author of The Millionaire in You, points out that to increase wealth, it’s essential to emulate millionaires who view money as something to save and invest, rather than income to spend. Many wealthy people live quite simply, he points out, choosing less pretentious homes than they could theoretically afford and opting for financial independence over material showmanship.

2. Focus

LeBoeuf also counsels resisting the impulse to be scattered in your efforts and interests: “Winners focus; losers spray.” And goals that are clearly written down are easier to keep in focus.

3. Do Whatever Is Necessary to Meet Your Goal

People who earn their millions are able not only to focus but persevere in the pursuit of their goals. One single mom entrepreneur, Melissa Clark-Reynolds, started her first business, a health and safety consultancy, when she had a young son. En route to her goal of being a millionaire by age 35, Clarke-Reynolds and her son ate lots of pizza, did homework late at night and often slept at the office. She is now a chief executive mentor for Empower New Zealand, a global business consulting firm headquartered in London.

4. Take Calculated Risks

You have to take strategic risks to earn and grow money. And a little rebelliousness seems to help too. One interesting study found a majority of male millionaire entrepreneurs had been in trouble with school authorities or the police during their adolescence.

5. Be Generous

And why doesn’t it surprise us that millionaires are often very generous? Sometimes it’s for the tax breaks, obviously, but often it’s not. One Jewish Swiss millionaire, for instance, flew to Israel to give $5,000 in cash to a waiter at a Jerusalem café who foiled a Palestinian suicide bombing. Among the most generous of millionaires are those from North America, who are, according to a Merrill Lynch Cap-Gemini report, two to five times more likely to give to causes they value than their European counterparts.

These five habits are a pretty good prescription for living happily even if you’re not a millionaire.

But LeBoeuf insists it’s not so unusual to be a millionaire. As of 2004, there were 8.2 million households with a net worth of more than $1 million. And are the folks in those households happy? Yes, says professor Andrew Oswald of the University of Warwick in the UK. After studying more than 9,000 people over eight years, Oswald concluded that people who come into money are happier. The happiest among them, he says, seem to be “highly educated, well-paid women who have jobs.”

And how much money does the professor say it takes to be happy? “About $1 million, give or take a little.”

Magic Johnson Rips Radio Talk Show Hosts Who Said He ‘Faked AIDS’

October 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

On the October 8 broadcast of Minneapolis’ The Chris Baker Show, KTLK hosts Chris Baker and Langdon Perry agreed that “Magic faked AIDS,” referring to former basketball star Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who announced in 1991 that he had tested HIV-positive.

During the program, a caller stated: “What you run into is — you run into this idea, the same way that in education we want to make all the dumb people smart even though it’s impossible — their IQ limits them — and we’re going to spend all this money to try to do something that’s impossible. And you — it’s a waste of time, and you get frustrated employees, frustrated workers with all these demands to do something they can’t possibly do.” Perry replied: “What about diseases that are eminently treatable and you can live with for a long, long time quite healthily if you just get some basic drugs?” Baker interjected, “like Magic Johnson,” to which Perry replied, “Like Magic with his faked AIDS.” After Baker asked, “You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?” Perry stated, “I’m convinced that Magic faked AIDS.” Baker replied, “Yeah, me too.” Perry added: “It falls apart when you get into motivation. I’m not sure why, but I’m pretty sure he faked AIDS. … Cause he’s the only cured AIDS guy ever.”

From the October 8 broadcast of KTLK’s The Chris Baker Show:

CALLER: What you run into is — you run into this idea, the same way that in education we want to make all the dumb people smart even though it’s impossible — their IQ limits them — and we’re going to spend all this money to try to do something that’s impossible. And you — it’s a waste of time, and you get frustrated employees, frustrated workers with all these demands to do something they can’t possibly do.

BAKER: There you go. All right, thanks.

PERRY: What about diseases that are eminently treatable and you can live with for a long, long time quite healthily if you just get some basic drugs?

BAKER: Like Magic Johnson.

PERRY: Like Magic with his faked AIDS. Magic faked AIDS.

BAKER: You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?

PERRY: I’m convinced that Magic faked AIDS.

BAKER: Yeah, me too.

PERRY: It falls apart –

BAKER: Which is horrible.

PERRY: — when you get into motivation. I’m not sure why, but I’m pretty sure he faked AIDS.

BAKER: I’ve got a great email here from –

PERRY: ‘Cause he’s the only cured AIDS guy ever.
